VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME - building capacity

Our Home Safety and Voluntary Training  programme is a tool to train volunteers to deliver home safety information to parents and carers. Whoops! developed the programme in 2003, to enable safety information to be passed on within those harder to reach communities. The training builds confidence deep within the most disadvantaged areas, back to their own community.

This training empowers volunteers into further and continuing education and employment. The course can be accredited by Whoops! Volunteers who once they complete the 10-week programme. will receive a Certificate of 'Successful Completion' or 'Attendance', whichever is appropriate.

OR

Accredited through NEOCN (North East Open College Network).
Volunteers will receive 'The Introductory Certificate in Home Safety and Voluntary Training' on completion of the Level 1 programme. The 'Introduction to Child Safety and Voluntary Training' is delivered in three modules:

Unit 1 UNINTENTIONAL INJURY - CHILDREN:
Introduction to Home Safety
Unit 2 UNINTENTIONAL INJURY - CHILDREN:
Introduction to Communication and presentation Skills
Unit 3 UNINTENTIONAL INJURY - CHILDREN:
Introduction to Volunteer Skills

Covering all aspects of home safety, choking, baby burns, water safety, equal opportunities and diversity, presentation skills and child protection; this volunteer programme empowers parents to learn in a fun, non-threatening environment and then pass on the safety messages deeper into the community to parents that Whoops! could never reach. Whoops! also offer basic first aid training sessions for volunteers.

A full evaluation was undertaken by the University of Newcastle to examine the effectiveness of the Whoops! Home Safety and Volunteer Training Programme. The full evaluation or executive summary is available on request.
